Referees and other Officials

Information for Referees and Officials

Referee Appointments - check this Thursday evening between 7pm-9pm

Football Queensland advise that Competitive Division (U13 and up) Team Managers should check the Referee Appointment, updated on Thursday evening.  If a Match Official is not appointed by Football Queensland, a Club Referee is organised by the Host Club (refer to the Referee Coordinator).  If a Club appointed Referee/Match Official is not available an agreement regarding who will officiate the match (e.g. a parent) is agreed upon by the two competing teams.


U5 to U12 Referees required also.  Please contact secretary@pineriversfc.org.au to express an interest.  Great pocket money!

Match Official Fees and Payment

The fees charged to the Club for Match Officials are outlined in the Football Queensland Match Officials Fees.

Pine Rivers Football Club Referee Fee Structure is approximately half of that paid to Football Queensland registered referees.  When released, we will link to the 2023 Referee Schedule.

All payments to all Referees is done electronically.  

Club Referees, please send bank account details to treasurer@pineriversfc.org.au

Team Managers, please confirm Referee attendance post-game by emailing the Club Secretary and Treasurer.

Who can referee a game?

You do not need to be a Registered Football Queensland (FQ) Referee to referee a Competitive game (U12 and above).  You do not need a Level 4 Certificate to referee a Competitive game.  However, PRAFC would like to provide knowledgeable Referees to officiate over matches held at the Club when a Football Queensland Referee is not appointed.

Therefore it is recommended that Club Referees for Competitive Junior and Senior matches complete the free Online Laws of the Game course.  This takes approximately 3 hours.  To continue Referee training, please express an interest to the Club to complete the one day course for a Level 4 qualification ($50 approximately)..  A Level 4 qualification and a minimum of 13 years of age is required for registration as a FQ Referee.  

Referees for non-competitive Aldi Mini Roos Club Football please refer to National Playing Formats and Rules. The Referee Coordinator will also provide support and training.

Referees aged under 18 should not officiate a Competitive Junior or Senior match alone.  For Referees under 18, officiating an U12 match, one accompanying assistant Referee at least is required.  For every age division above U12, two assistant Referees are recommended.  

Referees aged over 18 years of age can referee an U12 game unaccompanied.  Again, two assistant Referees are recommended by Football Brisbane for divisions above U12.

If a match is being officiated by Club Officials, please offer one assistant Referee position to the visiting team before allocating the second assistant Referee role to a Club member.  This is to promote transparency, fairness and good sportsmanship.

Reporting of Results by FQ Referees is done online and any referee will be shown the process in 2023.  Club Referees should keep a note book with them to record the scores and any misconduct and report the score and infringements to the Club Secretary for reporting to FQ.
